Event Description:
This event was canceled!
In recognition of National Small Business Week, the Women's Business Center of Utah in Cedar City will be hosting a breakfast to celebrate women business owners in southern and eastern Utah. This event will celebrate the diversity of women business owners in our rural communities and the value they bring to our economy and our communities.
We will begin with breakfast and the opportunity to network. Our program will feature a slide presentation of successful women business owners. Lisa Jensen, our Program Manager, will tell us the highlights of the last year and the impact we are making to help women be successful in their businesses.
The highlight of the event will be our guest speakers Dayla Ulrich, Sweet Pea Farm and Orchard in Parowan, and Heather Young, Front Porch Twang in Cedar City.
Being a business owner is hard. It takes a lot of work. Sometimes women forget that self-care is key to running a successful business. Dayla will speak to us about how nutrition and healthy eating play a role in self-care, and Heather will talk about how self-care is essential to our well-being and happiness in our
businesses and personal lives.
Meet Our Guest Speakers
Dayla Ulrich
Sweet Pea Farm & Orchard
Dayla’s grandmother loved walking through her garden during her summer visits to Parowan. Like Dayla, she loved being surrounded by the abundance and beauty of a growing garden. Every spring she would send Dayla a packet of sweet peas to plant in her garden. She would tell Dayla about the beautiful sweet peas that grew on her fence and how much she loved their delicate sweet scent. When Dayla made the decision to give up the garden and make the jump into full-time farming her grandmother was so excited. Although that was her last year with them, their mutual love for the beauty of growing is carried on here at the farm.
Sweet Pea Farm and Orchard was established in 2014, by a first-generation farmer, with the hopes of providing the community with healthy delicious food, seasonal flowers, and an inviting space to connect with others and enjoy the beauty. Edge to edge, the land is filled with hundreds of varieties of heirlooms and specifically chosen hybrid vegetables, herbs, and a small selection of flowers and fruits. Hidden in the back is a rambunctious beehive that has worked hard for years pollinating the fields and greenhouses. We make the best out of our short season in the high desert by using greenhouses and as many reasonable season extension tools as feasible. Each summer we work hard to create amazing events that provide an opportunity for the community to spend time enjoying the beauty and engaging with the farmers and each other.
Heather Young
Front Porch Twang
Heather Young is the founder and owner of Front Porch Twang. Her Cedar City-based boutique juggles a successful brick-and-mortar on Main Street along with an exciting online presence. Heather has a passion for helping women find confidence and self-love. As a busy wife and mom to three kids, Heather curates her shop with real, everyday women in mind - because she is one too!
Front Porch Twang Boutique was created in remembrance of Heather’s Father, who passed away from cancer when she was a child- its name is a tribute to him too. The name itself is a tribute to him - “Twang” was his nickname from his teenage years, since he was country before country was cool! Heather’s Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts, and her Dad’s band dedicated a song to her Mom about a guy and a girl sitting on a “Front Porch” swing, falling in love - Front Porch Twang!
Since their doors opened, Front Porch Twang has been dedicated to continuing the legacy Heather’s Father left behind of bringing joy and bringing out the best in everyone! Front Porch Twang is proud to donate a portion of sales to benefit kids whose parents have cancer.
